I just bought a digital download code for Halo 4 from Gamestop. Been waiting about 20 minutes for my code? How long is the usual wait. I mean I want to be patient but I feel like I ordered points of Amazon and redeemed them on the Xbox myself it be done by now.

I know Gamestop is having a digital sale on their website currently, and like a dummy I bought my girlfriend a code for The Sims 4 Vampires on Xbox One without doing any research on Gamestop's website functionality first. I see now that I could have done a search on Reddit and found a whole slew of negative experiences, but like any reasonable person I thought buying a digital game from a major retailer would be fairly straight forward these days. Does it work with all pre owned games. By Anonymous via Mobile. Does nothing for digital download. By Anonymous. Saved $10.00 on Kirby: Air Ride - GC () by Anonymous. Including GameStop, in the Best of RetailMeNot emails. Please enter a valid email address. The employee explained it would most likely have something to do. Downloadable Content (DLC), Digital Games and/or PC Downloads. I'd talk about Wal-Mart and other retailers but we all know how those people work. After placing the order, I got a notification that a confirmation email was being sent to an email address that isn't on my Gamestop account or on the order info I filled out. It was an AOL email address that seemed to have been pulled from thin air. When I check the order receipt on my GS account, it states at the top that I will receive a confirmation email to the address I have on file, but I never receive anything. I search my spam, my alternate email accounts, everywhere, but I never receive a single email pertaining to this order. I can only assume they went to the random email address it had displayed on the confirmation screen. Half an hour after placing the order and I haven't received a confirmation email, receipt, or game code. I see there's an option to check the status of an order on my GS account and look there, only to find that my order is still listed as processing. An hour later and it's the same thing. I decide to get support help but the support portal on the Gamestop website crashes whenever you try to access it. I google a customer support number and am greeted by a recording letting me know there are high call volumes and my call will be answered in more than 15 minutes. A little over a half an hour later, a call center agent answers and takes my order number. After checking in to it she tells me that the order is in a mandatory review period of 24 to 48 hours and would be released after. I'm told I won't be charged until the review is completed and the item released. I'm pretty surprised to hear I have to wait so long to receive a digital game code. I would have waited to buy it elsewhere during another sale had I known ahead of time, but I guess that's my fault for not looking up Gamestop's online policies. Anyway, I try to bring up the random email my confirmation was sent to and the fact that my actual account hadn't received anything, and she only seemed equipped to confirm my email address on file but lost at how to help beyond that. I agree to wait until the review period is completed. I refresh my gamestop account pretty often at this point, because I'm feeling bad I had told my girlfriend about the DLC when I placed the order and then had to tell her it was actually going to be awhile. A day later I see that the order status had been changed to canceled. Confused, I decided to call customer support back. During the hour+ wait, I check my bank account for unrelated reasons and notice a new charge from Gamestop for 11.99, which happens to be the exact cost of The Sims 4 Vampires I ordered. I'm not sure at this point if the order was actually successful or had been canceled, and I don't have any emails to tell me either way, so I explain the situation to the rep who answers. Hector. Hector the Devil. I really do not like Hector. He right away seems disinterested in helping me, and when I tell him I need just a second to grab the order number from the website he tells me he won't wait long. He has a gross attitude throughout, and informs me with absolute surety that the order was canceled, that my bank account doesn't show a charge, and that they aren't going to help me. He tells me that there was a problem with my card and that's why the order was canceled. I let him know that the card must have worked, since I clearly have a charge from Gamestop for the amount of the order. I ask for a supervisor and he tells me no. I tell him I can send a screenshot of the charge in my bank account and he says to take it up with the bank. Before disconnecting I ask for an employee number or way to identify him, and he let's me know again his name is Hector and hangs up. Thanks Hector, that's helpful. I flagged the charge on my bank account and received an email that it's under review, but haven't heard back yet. I tried calling Gamestop support again since the charge is still on there another day later but gave up after the longest hold time yet. I almost admire the fact that Gamestop can manage to pull off such incompetent and awful 'customer service' in 2018. My mind is boggled. TLDR: bought a digital code from Gamestop online, 2 days and a few technical problems on the GS website later I have no code but have been charged for it. Spent roughly 3 hours combined time on hold on the phone for absolutely zero customer support. Avoid using Gamestop's website for digital items if you can. Edit - I just saw that Amazon is having a digital sale now and bought her the code on there at the same price. I had it instantly and she just redeemed it.

Best answer: If you value convenience, Xbox Play Anywhere, or Game Pass above all, digital is your best bet. If you're motivated most by getting the best price, then you should buy physical games.
Some folks, including those who work here at Windows Central, have gone all digital to rid their lives of clutter, and that is a very valid reason. Some of us on staff have in excess of 250 titles in our collections, and that'd make for a mountain of physical discs and cases. Digital doesn't also mean you have to stop buying games at your favorite retailers. You can go into a store or online to somewhere like Amazon or the Microsoft Store and hand over your cash in exchange for a download code, or for Microsoft Store credit to spend through your console. Embrace your laziness and get rid of clutter with digital copies. Then there's the ever-growing population of ID@Xbox titles from smaller developers. More often than not these are only available in digital form from the store. Likewise, if you want to take advantage of Xbox Play Anywhere or Xbox Game Pass, you're 100% reliant on digital downloads. Physical discs might seem like they would have an installation speed advantage — for most gamers, the Xbox can read off the disc faster than it can download the full game from the internet — but that advantage has been mostly scuttled by the massive first-day download patches that have become par for the course for practically every major game release these days. And finally, for those of us who hate getting up, digital copies allow you to fully embrace your laziness. You don't need to extract yourself from your comfortable spot on the couch to pop a new disc in. That physical discs install fully to the Xbox's hard drive and still require you to insert the disc to play makes a case for digital even stronger. FIFA Street 3 from EA Sports Big pits teams of both contemporary and classic soccer stars against each other in matches played all over the world, taking in some unusual locations that have an impact on the gameplay along the way. The action is fast-paced and fun for a while, especially when you pit your skills against other players’, but the single-player options are very limited and the absence of a team-building career mode is disappointing. In the world of FIFA Street, soccer isn’t just about scoring more goals than your opponent; it’s about humiliating your opponent at every opportunity. For digitalXbox gift cardKeep your account topped up with credit. Not only are gift cards great gifts for your loved ones, but they're a great way to keep your account topped up to buy games with, and a good alternative if you'd rather not leave a credit card attached to your account. The case for physical is essentially a monetary one. As you're giving someone money for an object, you're not as limited to where you can get your games from as if you're buying digital. Sure, download codes are sold in a number of places, but discs are sold in more. One of the big things you will nearly always see with physical copies of games is that prices drop a lot quicker than their digital counterparts. There are some ancient digital games on the Store that are still full price but can be had for peanuts somewhere like Amazon or your local game retailer. Buying physical opens you up to buying pre-owned or trading in your finished games. In-store deals are frequent among traditional retailers, and it's unlikely a week will ever pass by without there being something worth snapping up. Buying physical also opens you up to buying pre-owned from places like GameStop and eBay, while also being able to trade in your finished games for money off something else. Once you've completed a digital title, it just sits there, paid for and with no further benefit to you. You can sell a disc online or trade in for credit on the next hot new game. And of course, some of us enjoy having a collection, especially considering that special, collectors editions of games often come with a physical copy, not a download code. See the Rage 2 collectors edition as an example of that. So which is best? There's no right and wrong answer. Only you can decide what is best for you. Our recommendation is a little bit of both. It doesn't matter how you get your games just so long as you're getting what you want and you're happy with what you've paid. Buying Digital Games From GamestopThere are distinct financial benefits to be had from buying physical copies which can't be ignored, but there are plenty of good and valid reasons for going digital. You can't go far wrong keeping your options open. Top upXbox gift cardBuy digital games with credit from a physical store.
